Retiring from academe Is not as easy as I thought it would be. Perhaps it is because according to the official announcement by our HR department I was given an additional thousand years before officially leaving on June 30, 3019!
I am more amused than confused. I still have a university email account which I enter as an employee. But I am not listed as an employee. Indeed, I seem not to have appeared as an emeritus professor of psychology – at least I am not so listed on the 2019 – 2020 catalog listing. Maybe that is just as well since some of those listed individuals are dead. There is a lot of confusion about what emeritus status means. Here is a thoughtful article I came across. I am proud to be included among our emeriti – such a wonderful but undervalued resource. It was odd not to know that I had been awarded the designation until I saw it in the commencement program!
Delighted to still be in touch with present students (I’ve already written two requested letters of recommendation this week), Colleagues (especially on Facebook!), and Campus Friends. I was delighted to be entrusted with reading a draft of Dr. Michelle Braun‘s forthcoming book. With amusement, I have agreed to attend some sort of Homecoming Celebration of my leaving:) I found this map on a link from a Carroll office to help me return for a visit on October 12.
Time to return to my reading and writing.
Beloved Pete Settle,
How sad that you are no longer with us. I so miss your kindness, wit, and wisdom.
Love, David

status:)
I remember well.
