What does it mean to be an emeritus Carroll professor? Finally, after four years, I am beginning to have some idea of what it means and some ideas of what it could mean. Below are some of my earlier thoughts at the end of 2019.
I made my first two visits to the Carroll campus since my retirement in October (the Old Main Society Donors Recognition Dinner and Homecoming). I returned a third time in December to attend a Christmas brunch for emeriti faculty. But, unfortunately, it was sad to return knowing that a dear, beloved colleague, Pete Settle, who epitomized so much of what Carroll claims to value, had recently passed away.
Though I still struggle to understand what it MEANS to be a Carroll emeritus faculty, it truly is joyful to continue connecting with individuals from the Carroll Community who impacted my life. That, of course, includes former (and a few present) students.
